How to Reset Epson XP-200 Waste Ink Counter

Is your Epson XP-200 blocked by the waste ink counter?
The Epson XP-200 stores an internal maintenance value that estimates how much ink has been sent to the waste ink pads during cleaning cycles and normal servicing. When the programmed limit is reached, the printer can stop accepting print jobs even though it still turns on and the cartridges contain ink.
Epson Status Monitor or Windows reports that printer service is required.

Software reset and physical ink pads are two separate jobs

For many home printers, the counter reaches its limit before ink leaks outside the machine. Even so, look under and around the printer before continuing. If you see fresh ink, a soaked base, an unusual smell or ink escaping from the case, service the waste ink system before returning the printer to regular use.
Do not start the reset until all five points are ready
- A computer with Windows 7, 8, 10 or 11.
- The original Epson driver for the XP-200.
- A working USB data cable connected directly to the computer.
- Only one Epson or Canon printer connected.

Prepare Windows and the printer for stable communication
Most unsuccessful attempts are not caused by the reset key. They happen because Windows loses the printer during the write operation. A few minutes of preparation greatly reduces that risk.
Do not reset over Wi-Fi. Do not use a USB hub, splitter, docking station or long extension cable. Connect the cable to a direct motherboard USB port.
A generic Windows printer driver can be enough for ordinary printing but fail when the program sends service commands. Install the original driver made for the Epson XP-200.
Cancel pending documents and wait until the queue is empty. A stuck print job can keep the printer port busy.

Do not keep entering keys while the connection is unstable. Fix communication first, then repeat the reset with the official recovery route.
The printer disappears or the key field vanishes
The computer has lost the printer connection. Close the program, reconnect the USB cable to another direct port, wait until Windows detects the printer and open Connect again. Try another data cable or another Windows computer when necessary.
WIC Reset Utility cannot read the counter
Check that the XP-200 is powered on, selected in the program and connected by USB. Remove hubs, reinstall the original Epson driver, clear the queue and terminate Epson background processes.
Windows installs the printer during the procedure
Stop and allow driver installation to finish. The printer port must remain unchanged during the reset. Restart Windows after installation if the device repeatedly reconnects.
The reset was interrupted after entering the key
Correct the cable, port, driver or process problem first. Then use the official replacement-key page and repeat the documented procedure. Do not attempt another write over an unstable connection.
The counter reads 0% but the printer still shows an error
The waste counter has been reset, so another active fault may be present. Check for paper, carriage, cartridge and general hardware errors. Also power the printer off for about 10 seconds before testing again.
The printer works but ink is visible underneath
Stop using the printer and service the physical waste ink system. A software reset cannot repair a leaking tube, saturated pad or damaged internal part.
